Jonathan
Zeitlin (Ph.D. Warwick, M.A. Cambridge, B.A. Harvard) is
Professor of History, Sociology, and Industrial Relations, and Director
of the European Union Center, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He has written widely on current and historical developments in
economic organization, industrial relations, and public policy in
Europe and the United States. His most recent books are Governing
Work and Welfare in a New Economy: European and American Experiments
(Oxford, 2003), Americanization and Its Limits: Reworking U.S. Technology
and Management in Postwar Europe and Japan (Oxford, 2000), and World
of Possibilities: Flexibility and Mass Production in Western Industrialization
(Cambridge, 1997). A Faculty Associate at COWS since 1992, Jonathan
helped to set up the Manufacturing Jobs With a Future Partnership,
and is currently working on industrial supply chains and regional
economic development policies through the Advanced Manufacturing
Project.
