Child Care Wage Initiative

Contact: Laura Dresser, COWS Research Director, ldresser at cows.org

The Local Child Care Wage Initiative is a pilot project of the City of Madison and Dane County, aimed at improving the quality of child care in the County by improving the quality of child care workers’ jobs. Drawing on both quantitative data and information gathered from surveys and personal interviews, COWS has shown how child care providers are affected by low wages and demanding work. We have also evaluated the Wage Initiative, paying close attention to the relationship between wage rates, staff turnover, and quality of care.
