Labor Market Intermediaries

Contact: Laura Dresser, COWS Research Director, ldresser at cows.org

As job-hopping becomes more commonplace and employers cut back on training and promotions, workers are increasingly forced to depend on labor-market intermediaries (like temp agencies or professional networks) for help in finding jobs. What kinds of resources do intermediaries offer? Which are most successful at moving workers into quality careers? Through an in-depth two-city study, COWS researchers and their colleagues are investigating the challenges faced by workers as they navigate today’s volatile labor market – and identifying the job-search strategies that best serve their needs.
